Rewrite the Story What is it? Based on a given topic or event, students reconstruct the story. How to do it: After reading about or discussing an event, the teacher asks students to rewrite the story. There are several variations that can be used to implement this strategy: 1.Students can retell the story as they heard it. 2. Students can become a character in the story, but cannot change the storyline. 3.Students can improve the story by rewriting it altogether, but the story must be based on the original event. (This can be accomplished by adding descriptive details, emotions, feelings, etc.) Strengths: · Shows what students know about a given topic · Practice writing · Whole class participation Limitations: · Students must know about the topic or event before they can rewrite it · When students rewrite the event, they must use factual and realistic information · Creativity is limited in some of the variations
